Jargon-buster :: Image size
Image - this is usually quoted as the diagonal measurement
(corner to corner). The table below lists a number of Hitachi
projectors and the distance (ie. throw) needed between projector
and screen to give a 10ft (3m) image.
| Model | Native Resolution | Image Size / Distance | ANSI lumens |
|---|---|---|---|
| CP-X1 | XGA 1024x768 | 3m / 3.14m-3.59m | 2000 |
| CP-X400 | XGA 1024x768 | 3m / 3.57m-4.05m | 3000 |
| CP-X605 | XGA 1024x768 | 3m / 3.57m-4.31m (std lens) | 4000 |
| CP-X807 | XGA 1024x768 | 3m / 3.57m-4.31m (std lens) | 5000 |
Details taken from Hitachi Digital Media
To have a 3 metre (10ft) image the CP-X605 projector would need to be 3.6 to 4.3 metres (12ft to 14ft) away from the screen. The distance varies in this example because this projector has a zoom lens. Special lenses (eg. wide or tele) can be fitted to this projector and others, though do note it will have a dramatic impact on the final price.
Here are some suggested screen and audience sizes:
- LCD monitor 17" - 3 or 4
- Plasma screen 42" - 25 to 30
- Projection screen 8ft (2.5m) - 150
